EDTS 505 - Making Thinking Visible (3)What is thinking? It’s a process you probably reference in your classroom every day, but how often do you stop and consider what effective thinking really looks like? What are the best instructional practices to promote active, higher-level thinking that is visible to both you and your students?
In this course, you will learn to create an environment that fosters and supports an active culture of thinking and learning in the classroom. You’ll plan explicit instruction that encourages students to “show” their thought processes so both you and they can measure their level of understanding. As students develop a greater awareness of their own metacognitive strategies and problem-solving skills, they become more independent and capable of directing their own learning through the use of specific thought mechanisms.
With the techniques you learn in this course, you will be able to guide your students to be deep, independent thinkers who can approach any new topic using sound metacognitive exercises.
