EDTS 537 - The 4 Levels of Depth of Knowledge (DOK) (3)Recent educational standards and best practices have put a great deal of emphasis on “rigor” and “college and career readiness.” Although important, these concepts can be difficult to define, much less apply to classroom activities. Webb’s Depth of Knowledge (DOK) tool can help all teachers, regardless of grade or subject, ensure that students are engaging new concepts at the appropriate level to help them build the knowledge and skills they need to grow.
In this course, you will learn how to design lessons that are appropriately complex, rigorous, and engaging for students in the 21st-century classroom. You will review the historical foundations of Webb’s Depth of Knowledge, explore the four DOK levels, and use Webb’s DOK in conjunction with Bloom’s Taxonomy to design lessons. In addition, you will evaluate student objectives, activities, questions, and assessment tasks to ensure that they are appropriately aligned and challenge students at various levels of mental processing.
Using the resources and techniques from this course, you will be able to develop lessons that vary in complexity and engage students in deeper levels of thinking.
