EDLA 501 - Teaching Research Writing in the Digital Age (3)

Arguably the Internet’s greatest strength and greatest weakness are one in the same: Anyone can post anything for anyone to see. Your middle and high school students have access to an unprecedented amount of information, but it’s up to you to teach them how to vet sources for academic credibility and present their findings ethically and effectively.

In this course, you will learn how to guide students through the entire process of writing a research paper, including how to develop research ideas, gather valid information, analyze relevant data, organize disparate materials, craft a well-reasoned report, and fine-tune a presentation. In addition to reviewing information specific to writing research reports, you will have the opportunity to practice instructional techniques such as modeling, scaffolding, paraphrasing, and discovery.

With the principles you learn in this course, you’ll be able to equip students to write research reports for businesses and nonprofits so they will be prepared to thrive in the workplace.
