ED 522 - Language & Literacy in the Global Context (3)This course explores the development of language as the foundation for literacy. It further examines how language and literacy are interrelated, and presents multiple perspectives on the definition of “literacy,” in developing nations and the industrialized world. Cultural, social, and political factors impacting literacy acquisition will be addressed as well as the role of schools as social systems. Strategies for promoting literacy in multiple contexts will be presented. Field-based assignment required. FA, SP.
