Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Concentrations:

The MBA program provides preparation for adults to assume administrative positions in a broad range of business and other types of institutions within our society. A student with a bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline may enroll in Avila’s MBA program. Students who have a bachelor’s degree in a field other than business will be required to take certain prerequisite courses.

Avila University is accredited by the IACBE (International Accreditation Council for Business Education) to offer the Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degrees, and the Master in Business Administration degrees in the School of Business.*

MBA Schedule

The Avila MBA is an evening and on-line program offered in an 8-week scheduling format.

Admission

The admission requirements for the MBA program can be found on the Admissions  page. Students with a 3.2 GPA or above are considered for GMAT exemption.

4+1 Early Admission

You are eligible to apply if you are an Avila Undergraduate and have completed 55 or more credit hours. Prospective students must complete the following courses with a B- or better in at least five (5) of the following business core areas at Avila: (Note: If you are transferring in these courses, you may satisfy this requirement with additional coursework in content area)

AC 201 Principles of Accounting I or AC 202 - Principles of Accounting II
EC 202 Principles of Microeconomics or EC 203 - Principles of Macroeconomics
      EC 240 Statistical Analysis
      FI 330 Finance
MG 321 Management or MG 322 Organizational Behavior
      MK 310 Marketing

If the requirements above are met you will be admitted to the MBA program upon application if you have an undergraduate GPA at the time of application of 3.2 or higher. If the above requirements are not met, other criteria, such as business coursework grade point average, GMAT (if taken) and recommendation letters can be submitted to the School of Business admission committee by prospective students. If admitted, graduate coursework can begin once you have completed 75 or more credit hours. A denial decision to the early admission MBA program does not preclude future admission into the MBA program after the bachelor’s degree has been completed.

  • Minimum number of graduate credit hours for an MBA = 30
  • Maximum number of MBA credit hours allowed prior to completion of the BSBA degree = 12

Once admitted to the early admission MBA program, a 3.0 GPA in all graduate and undergraduate coursework must be maintained, with no grades below a “B” in graduate courses.  Failure to meet these minimum requirements will result in removal from the early admission option.

Grades

The MBA student can only repeat a given course one time. Only two “C” grades are allowed during the student’s entire program of study.

Requirements for Graduation

Each program must involve a minimum of 30 total graduate credit hours of which 24 credit hours are open exclusively to graduate students. A maximum of six graduate credit hours may be transferred from another accredited institution toward the minimum 30 credit hour requirement.

All concentrations, except accounting, require the completion of nine credit hours of work in an area of concentration. The accounting concentration requires twelve credit hours. Principal graduate courses otherwise required may be counted in this nine credit hour requirement when relevant to the concentration selected. All students must file an application for degree in accordance with guidelines set forth by the University. A 3.0 grade point average is required in graduate courses. All requirements for the degree program must be completed within a seven-year period.

Incomplete Grade in Directed Study or Research

Any incomplete (“I”) grade in a graduate Directed Study or Research course not completed for evaluation by the first day of the second session or semester following the one in which the student initially enrolled will be changed to “F.”

In order to extend the time for completing the work, the student must again enroll in the course and pay the tuition.

The Curriculum

The specific courses required of a particular student in completing the program depends on his or her prior educational background and the specific concentration selected. Courses may be classified as prerequisite and core courses. Internships are not required in the MBA program; however, students may opt to enroll in an internship for elective credit only.

All MBA concentrations require MA 120 College Algebra or equivalent.
