Writing & Rhetoric Certificate

A certificate in Writing & Rhetoric helps prepare students for careers in any field that requires advanced skills in written or visual rhetoric. Students who earn the certificate will sharpen their professional and technical writing skills and strengthen their ability to communicate clearly and effectively through a variety of media. The certificate requires 12 credit hours. Transfer credit is not allowed for courses which count toward the certificate. A Writing and Rhetoric emphasis is also available for students seeking a bachelor’s degree in English.

Writing & Rhetoric Course Requirements
12 hours must include the following:

Students who prefer a professional and technical focus may select to take EN 210, EN 213, or EN 222. Students who want a creative writing experience may choose to take EN 231, EN 233, or EN 235.
Outcomes
Produce texts appropriate for a diverse range of professional contexts and purposes through a variety of media.
Assessment
Outcomes will be assessed through a combination of written essays, exams, projects, and skills-based assignments and practice. These outcomes will be outlined in detail in individual course syllabi.
